SUMMARY:CETCI Pedagogy After Hours with Todd Duncan
DESCRIPTION:Todd Duncan’s Introductory Physics classes used to culminate
in a high stakes written exam that his students disliked taking and that he
disliked grading. The transition to online classes\, however\, forced Todd
to completely rethink how he assessed his students at the end of the
semester—a redesign that he continues to use now. Rather than giving his
students a high-stakes exam\, Todd has designed a compelling project that
not only assesses learning outcomes\, but thoroughly engages his students
and allows them to apply physics creatively in their own lives. It's even
fun to grade! In this presentation\, Todd will describe the process he used
to design this culminating experience and share how others might apply
these lessons in their own courses.
